On May 15th, a private commission will make recommendations to the government about the future of your post office. This could include selling it to a private business, leading to reduced and more expensive services.

Your post office is an important service that is part of your community, and provides connection to every part of this country. You deserve to have a say in its future.

Do we expand it and make it better, or do we lose it? What are you about to lose?

The post office as you know it...
A better way forward

The Kaplan Commission is tasked with making recommendations about how the post office does its work. This may include changes to the Canada Post Act and our mandate, which may precipitate a profound change to our role, and a “race to the bottom” with gig-based, high-price private delivery services.

The public post office is part of your community, the national identity, and a staple of service to the common good. What could its loss look like?

The local small-town post office - a place not just for mail, but for community and connection? Gone.

Service to remote, rural, Indigenous communities? Gone.

Affordable shipping that helps small business to succeed and flourish? Gone.

Your neighborhood delivery agent, who knows your community, looks out for your elders, knows your needs? Replaced by a new gig worker every day.

Canadians need and depend on the public post office.

Will you miss it when it’s gone?

Too many businesses “solve” problems by cutting back service and staff until they are too weak to stand, and ending altogether. Unfortunately, it appears this model may be applied to the post office with similar results.

But it doesn't have to be like that.

There is a vision for the post office that utilizes its strengths for growth–providing additional services that make it, and your community, stronger and better.

Postal banking services in rural and remote locations. EV charging stations. Affordable grocery delivery. Wellness check-in services for the elderly. Community meeting spaces. The post office is uniquely situated to provide this and more, in addition to maintaining door-to-door delivery.

The workers of the post office champion this vision for a strong, stable, and vital public service.
